The Smiths Announce Reissue Of 'The Queen Is Dead'

Thursday, 20 July 2017 Written by Laura Johnson

The Smiths have announced a reissue of their 1986 LP 'The Queen Is Dead'.

Due out on October 20, it will contain previously unheard demos and b-sides. The deluxe box set will also feature a ‘Live In Boston’ album, recorded at the Great Woods Center For The Performing Arts on August 5, 1986, and The Queen Is Dead film by Derek Jarman.

Speaking about the release, Morrissey said:

"You cannot continue to record and simply hope that your audience will approve, or that average critics will approve, or that radio will approve. You progress only when you wonder if an abnormally scientific genius would approve – and this is the leap The Smiths took with The Queen Is Dead."

Johnny Marr added:

“The Queen Is Dead was epic to make and epic to live.”

In November last year the band also shared a previously unreleased version of 'The Queen Is Dead' track The Boy With The Thorn In His Side, with b-side Rubber Ring, both of which will feature on the reissue. Head here to listen to it.
