Online Ticket Touts, Get Me Tickets.com, Closed Down Print E-mail

ImageGet Me Tickets Ltd, an online ticket tout that angered thousands of customers for their shody business practices, have been forced to shut down.

The online retailer would sell tickets they did not have, for up to 10 times the face values, to unsuspecting members of the public including some Stereoboard.com members.


BBC News reports that the High Court have now forced the retailer to close down all operations with immediate effect.

Commenting on the decision Consumer Minister Ian McCartney said: "This ruling blows the final whistle on Get MeTickets, sending out a message to anyone low enough to prey on fans' passion for music and sports events.  I am determined to stamp out these rogues and protect consumers from losing their hard-earned cash."

The company was said to be a "secondary ticket agent" which sells tickets it has acquired to members of the public at a price "vastly in excess of the face value", said the judge. The Secretary of State petitioned to wind up the companies after an investigation found the public were being misled into believing that if they paid for tickets, such bookings were firm.

"In truth," said the judge, "it is said that orders were taken and payments received merely in the hope that the company would then be able to acquire the tickets to fulfil the orders."

Getmetickets.com caused outrage last year when members of the Stereoboard.com community were ripped off by these touts posing as a reputable web company.
