ImageFemale singer-songwriter Sandi Thom has set tongues wagging in the music industry after an exposé by The Independent newspaper earlier this week accused the singer's PR company of exaggerating her webcast's viewing figures while feeding false stories to the press.

Thom signed to to major label RCA/SonyBMG in April after huge media interest resulted in a number of record contract offers.

Now though, experts have come out of the woodwork to accuse Thom's PR company Quite Great of fibbing about the successes of her bedroom gigs, which had 'apparently' peaked at 100,000 viewers from all around the world, and accusing Quite Great of planting stories in the press to bolster her growing reputation.

The 'experts' say that there is no way Thom's website would have been able to handle the traffic of 100,000 simultaneous video webcasts. They also point to traffic analysis site www.alexa.com which also doesn't show any major jump in traffic for Sandi's official site.

Quite Great have played down the accusations though, preferring to concentrate on the vast achievements of Thom and all the "hard work" over the years.

A spokesperson revealed: "As far as we are aware she is a home-grown talent, which is what helped her get a major record deal. When we signed her up she had already started using the internet to broadcast her gigs.

"She has worked hard to get a name for herself and has done everything to secure this deal."

Thom reached number two in the charts last weekend with her debut single 'I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker', her debut album 'Smile It Confuses People' is released on Monday June 5th.

Great story, at the end of the day it's all a bunch of ridiculous hype. Being famous for being overrated is nothing new. Chantelle from 'Celeb BB' anyone?
