Whilst not as incendiary as some of their other songs, 'Holidays in the Sun' still has that undeniably inimitable sound of the Sex Pistols.

The track opens with marching jackboots,  punctuated with four solitary chords - as if they're announcing the impending avalanche of drums that come crashing down as the song thunders into full tilt with a brilliant, if slightly borrowed guitar riff  (in the absence of Glen Matlock, at least they showed initiative!).

But It's Lydon's trademark vocals that really distinguish the sound of the Sex Pistols.  In this track he starts out emphatic and purposeful....almost sneering, only to become increasingly disparate and desperate as the song progresses, escalating until he sounds almost unhinged by the end of the track - jabbering away as the song plays out.

It's not hard to see why other bands were inspired by the Pistols in '75 and '76 as this is the sound that so many find synonymous with punk 'rock'n'roll'. It's just a shame that for a some people, who aren't aware of just how jarring and controversial The Sex Pistols were in such a socially conservative era -  this track might sound cliched.

If however, you're unfamiliar with The Sex Pistols then this track is a good place to start.
