Nigerian musician Femi Kuti, the son of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, performs during celebrations for Africa Day in Johannesburg, May 25, 2007. Fela, as he is popularly known, died of AIDS-related complications on August 2 in 1997 aged 58, but Afrobeat has taken on a new life as a protest music in the underground scene of many U.S. cities.
