This photo provided by Lincoln Center Festival 08 shows a September 2007, performance of 'Die Soldaten,' at the RuhrTriennale music festival in Bochum, Germany. “Die Soldaten,” the 20th-century opera by German composer Bernd Alois Zimmermann, will be presented in a new production by Lincoln Center Festival 08 in association with the Park Avenue Armory. The North American premiere of this production from the RuhrTriennale, the first to be mounted outside of an opera house, will be presented in a non-proscenium space – as the composer originally envisioned it – in the vast Drill Hall of the Park Avenue Armory in New York City (AP Photo/Lincoln Center Festival 08, Clarchen und Matthias Baus)AP - The opening note of Bernd Alois Zimmermann's "Die Soldaten" has to be the most moving in opera when heard in David Pountney's production: The 974-seat bleacher containing the audience slowly starts to roll down train tracks in the Park Avenue Armory's Drill Hall, passing over a football field-length runway where most of the action takes place.
