The Wedding Present live at Newcastle Carling Academy on 15th December 2008

It?s a Monday, the week before Christmas and it?s a tad quiet. How long til the credit crunch is blamed for stopping bands reforming to cash in when there?s no cash about??

Well, those of us who ventured out to see The Wedding Present again were treated to…..nothing special.

When a band opens with a high energy song like Kennedy, you expect everyone to get warmed up and enjoy themselves but it just never happened.

People who had seen The Wedding Present before were obviously enjoying themselves, but some of the more casual listeners were less than impressed.

Songs from the brilliant El Rey went down okay, but people still seem to prefer Take Fountain, with a few calls for Ringway to Seatac (not played disappointingly, it?s a great live song).  Blue Eyes still gets a big cheer, Interstate Five still sounds like Wire and is pretty awful live, and the rest just didn?t get going in any way. If things are going wrong, you can change the set list you know!

After The Wedding Present finished with Boo Boo from El Ray, people just wandered out.  There were no conversations of how good or bad it was, just indifference. A shame.

I?ve travelled many miles to see The Wedding Present, and yet when it?s just up the road, they?re plain! Even the missus didn?t fawn over Sam Allardyce lookalike David Gedge for a change!

I’ve just read how many tickets Take That have sold for stadium gigs in 2009.  Obviously the credit crunch isn’t stopping people buying tickets for £50 to see grown-up boy bands!

See David, all you have to do is play Back for Good live and you?ll get people in the mood.
