Singer has not performed live since October murders of her mother, brother, nephew.

Three months after her mother, brother and nephew were killed in Chicago, Jennifer Hudson will take the stage in front of the biggest TV audience of the year. The Oscar-winning singer has agreed to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida, on February 1, marking the first time since the murders that she will sing in public.

Hudson has not appeared in public since the killings, with which her estranged brother-in-law, William Balfour, has been charged. The "Dreamgirls" star and former "American Idol" contestant, who is up for four Grammy awards for her self-titled debut album, will make another tentative step back into the spotlight a few days later when she is slated to sing at the Grammys' MusiCares event honoring Neil Diamond on February 6.

The Super Bowl news, first reported by E!, comes less than a week before the inauguration of Barack Obama, where Hudson was rumored to be performing. The 27-year-old sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, in August to a rapturous reception, but at press time she was not expected to be taking part in any of the inaugural festivities.

Though it was reported in December that Hudson would return to work and film a music video, the singer canceling the previously scheduled shoot for the "If It Isn't Love" clip.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are performing during halftime at the Super Bowl, which traditionally draws one of the biggest television audiences of the year.
