Geek rockin' American heroes Weezer are to release their own special branded blanket.
Comfort blanket? Wet blanket more like. Weezer have always tread the line between geek and chic, yet this new slice of information could well out wimp the famously cringe worthy 'Island In The Sun' video.
Weezer released their latest album last year. Greeted with no measure of disappointment by critics, hardcore fans rejoiced in the another slice of songwriting from Rivers Cuomo. In a bumper year for Weezer fans, Cuomo later released two albums worth of demos versions including material from an abandoned rock opera.
However the band claimed later that this would be their only material for some time, with Weezer due to take time out of the recording studio to play a number of tour dates. Fans need not despair, however, with Weezer set to release a new comfort blanket.
The band have teamed up with a blanket company, and are set to get their own 'Snuggie'. Essentially a blanket with sleeves, Weezer have chosen to re-name their branded version as a 'Wuggie'.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone singer Rivers Cuomo claims that the new product is a fully fledged Snuggie.
?A Wuggie is basically exactly like a Snuggie, except it says Weezer on it. The people at Snuggie are doing it with us and promoting it with us. It?s a totally legit Snuggie,? Cuomo said.
Earlier this year Weezer played a headline set at the KROQ Weenie Roast in California, with Rivers Cuomo choosing to step out in a Snuggie. Not any old blanket-with-arms, however, as the singer chose to wear a leopard printed version.
Weezer releases have been thin on the ground this year, with fans well advised to pick up that Wuggie and complete their collection. Rivers Cuomo did, however, release a special live DVD and accompanying album.
The band have been busy breaking in a new member, with recent shows demonstrating that Weezer still have their sparkling sense of humour. The group performed live at a business ceremony, and chose to play a version of electro starlet Lady Gaga's smash hit 'Just Dance'.
Weezer's wuggie will be available later this year.
