'Idol' runner-up says upcoming release recorded in 2005 'in no way reflects' the music he's recording now.

Adam Lambert doesn't seem to want you to hear "Want," a song he recorded long before he rose to fame on "American Idol," or the album it's featured on.

In a statement released to MTV News late Friday (June 19), Lambert said that the song — and everything on On With the Show, an album being released this summer by Hi Fi Recordings/ Wilshire Records — is a time capsule that "in no way reflects" the music he's making now.

"Back in 2005, when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else," his statement said. "I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio. The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on. I'm thrilled to be working with some of today's hottest songwriters and producers and can't wait for people to hear what my music really sounds like."

"Want" first premiered Friday afternoon on PerezHilton.com, and was initially believed to be the first single from Lambert's RCA Records debut. That proved to be incorrect — a spokesperson for 19 Entertainment, which produces "Idol" and manages the post-show career of many contestants — told MTV News that Hilton's post contained "false information," and a press release from Hi Fi Recordings trumpeted On With the Show as being "an album of fantastic, diverse material recorded over the course of 2007/2008."

"Adam co-wrote many of the tracks that will appear on On With the Show ... right before his meteoric rise to prominence," Hi Fi's statement read. "These recent recordings from his partnership with Wilshire, an LA-based production and publishing company, are drenched in Lambert's signature pop/rock sound and style."

Neither Lambert, RCA nor 19 Entertainment plan on attempting to block the release of On With the Show, though in a post on his Twitter account Saturday, Lambert reiterated that he "can't wait" for fans to hear his new music.

According to RCA, Lambert's debut album will be in stores this fall.
