ImageHumungus bands, wrestling with uncooperative tents, night-time Mexican shout-waves from tent to tent, being completely lost, weird art, the ability to say “oh, yeah, I saw them in Glastonbury back in 2010”, mad circus folk, porta-loos that defy description, silly hats, midnight antics, the which-band-to-see dilemma, dancing by firelight, strange and wonderful people, smugly swigging from your own stash of booze, discovering new bands, avoiding arrest, more music and, very possibly, mud.

The forthcoming Glastonbury will be the 40th anniversary of Worthy Farm’s contribution to music appreciation and cow-worrying. In wedding terms, it’s the ruby, so expect big things. Mike Eavis is feeling the pressure and is planning an anniversary to remember with more non-music attractions and, in his words, “the best headliners in the world.”

The line-up has yet to be confirmed. In fact, the only band known to be in the 2010 line up is The John E Vistic Experience. The band won the Rockstar Competition recently, the gold prize of which is playing at the Glastonbury Festival. Other potential acts are anyone’s guess. Rumours include Florence & the Machine, Fatboy Slim, Duran Duran, Paul Simon, Dizzie Rascal, Bob Dylan, the Foo Fighters and… Bodger & Badger.

There’s also a rumour going round that they’ll be expanding it to four days of music instead of the normal three and, as Grist to the high-expectation mill, Emily Eavis has said they’re planning to have a greatest hits of Glastonbury-style event with an act from every year Glastonbury has run on the pyramid stage. She also said: “and I think we’ll try and make a lot of the biggest performances on some of the tinier stages, so we’re going to do something really special for our 40th anniversary.”

To get a ticket, you’ll have to register, which involves sending a photo and ultimately paying £185; yep, it’s gone up again this year. Registration closes on the 2nd October.
