David Gray, a musician able to produce A) songs so remorselessly sad that the Government were considering releasing his albums as a method of population control, and B) songs so unflinchingly cheery that the grins can only be removed from fans’ faces with a crow-bar, has announced a tour. Click here for tickets.
Gray was beavering away for years, eight to be precise, before he hit the big time. He was known and respected in folky-type circles and then released two albums, ‘White Ladder’ and ‘A New Day at Midnight’. They had the double-whammy distinction of both reaching number one in the album charts and stopping Gareth Gates doing it. Nice.
‘Draw the line’, Gray’s new album was released on September 14th. It is the musician’s eighth studio album and has guest appearances by Annie Lennox and Jools Holland. The first single ‘Fugitive’ is in the charts, somewhere, right now.
Mr Gray will be performing:
Dec 09 - HMV Apollo Hammersmith, London
Dec 13 - O2 Academy Leeds
Dec 15 - Symphony Hall Birmingham
Dec 16 - Colston Hall Bristol
Dec 18 - Apollo Manchester
