Radiohead's Thom Yorke has formed a new band.

The frontman has recruited crazy Chilies slap bassist Flea, Joey Waronker (a drummer and producer who has worked with Beck, mashing Pumpkins and REM), Brazil’s multi-talented Drum Maestro Mauro Refosco, and ace producer Nigel Godrich (worked with Radiohead a lot but also Beck, McCartney, Travis, U2, etc... etc...) to help him perform his solo material live.

They’ve played two Amercian dates already, so it’s only a matter of time before the come ashore to blighty. The Los Angeles Times said of Yorkes’ new band: “He's still nudging the outer limits of what a rock band is capable of today, but by turning to some basic, downright sexy beat-making and gleeful witch-doctor arrangements.” I think that means they like it.

So far, Yorke & co have been playing from Yorke’s solo ‘Eraser’ album, with a few unreleased Radiohead songs and some new tracks thrown in. Yorke shyly claimed there was a lack of new material in the bands set on Radiohead’s ‘Dead Air Space’ blog, but the new songs played got the LA Times writer practically sobbing onto the page about the quality of the material. All that and Yorke is apparently a very good dancer.

Impressive stuff from a band that has yet to be named. It’s nice to see where the real effort has gone. For names, Adam Buxton has suggested Thombola, Thomosexual, The Duke Of Yorke and T.Homme. I’m going with ‘A Thom and da Bombs’ but then I've got flu and my brain is full of snot. I’m sure you can do better. Any suggestions?
