When you put Wolfmother on, do you get that sensation where a million roaring music demons are coursing out of your belly, getting ready to ROCK, the feeling that your soul has become a vast monolith of purest head-banging fury and your head is spinning like you’ve been flung back in time to the glory days of Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath? You do? Really? That’s just not normal. Seriously, seek help. In the meantime, take a dose of Wolfmother on tour and see me in the morning. Click here for tickets.
Wolfmother came screaming out of Sydney like a Mongol hoard of four and hacked themselves a niche in the music world. Their self-titled album hit number three in the Australian charts in 2005 and won that year’s J Award and the 2006 ARIA Awards for Best Breakthrough Album and Best Rock Album. The single from the album "Woman", won a Grammy in 2007. They’ve also been nominated for more awards than I’ve dropped hot dinners; that's 25 nominations.
There’s also something about Wolfmother music that appeals to film, computer game and commercial makers. At the last count, they’ve been featured in iPod, Mitsubishi and Peugeot commercials (I hate it when adverts pick up good songs, like Light & Day by the Polyphonic Spree isn’t Light & Day any more, it’s the fooking Sainsburys song permanently accompanied by an image of Jamie ‘the human buttock’ Oliver obscenely fondling a mince pie) Guitar Hero II, MotorStorm, Pure, Saints Row 2, Tony Hawk's Project 8, Flat Out 2, Rugby 06, Need for Speed Carbon, Rock Band, MLB 07 and NHL 07 computer games and School for Scoundrels, Shrek the third and the Hangover movies.
Wolfmother will be performing in support of their new album ‘Cosmic Egg’ on these dates:
13 Jan - Olympia, Dublin
14 Jan - O2 Academy, Glasgow
15 Jan - O2 Academy, Newcastle
17 Jan - O2 Academy, Manchester
