Oasis Split

By now we have surely all heard the news? The dust has settled and people can barely conjure up enough enthusiasm to care anymore, but believe me, it is still worth talking about the night Oasis split-up, purely for its hilarity alone. Really it is, when you hear this, I’m sure you’ll agree, its classic Liam.

The past few days an account from “a mole” has emerged which could give fans a greater insight into the final epic battle that sent the brothers their separate ways. How “a mole” got backstage passes, Ill never know, but it has been brought to light via “a mole” and gossip website, Holymoly.com.

When the bombshell was dropped back in August, we all couldn’t believe that Oasis were finally calling it a day. Most of us probably assuming it was just another tiff and the brothers would be back to playing together again within a few months. Now nearly two months after the announcement, someone – not an actual mole after all - has come forward with their version of what happened that night when the band failed to play at the Paris ‘Rock en Seine’ festival on August 28th. Newspapers rightly reported that Noel had stormed out from the gig a minute before going on stage because Liam smashed up his guitars. The whole five-minute saga is now reported as being “a proper comedy” says the website.

The alleged story is that Liam, who has always fancied himself as a bit of a guitarist (much to Noels hilarity), had brought his own acoustic guitar to play in the dressing room. It’s said that Liam quite often likes to lounge around strumming it in a Lennon-esque manner. With tension already high between the two brothers, a row erupted when Noel made a “pithy comment” about Liam’s playing. You can guess what happened next, the red-mist descended and Liam, as we have read many times before, flipped.

According to Holymoly.com, “without thinking Liam stood up and hurled the guitar at Noel. Naturally it missed and landed next to him at his feet.” The website goes onto report that, “Realising Liam had mistakenly thrown his own guitar Noel looked down, shrugged and stamped seven bells of sh*t out of it until it resembled the bottom of a hamster’s cage.” Nicely put.

In response to Noel’s actions Liam shoved his way from the backstage area to the side of the stage where stood a huge shining rack full of Noel’s guitars all primed and ready for the gig. Liam pulled the stand to the ground and the guitars crashed down in a heap. Noels farewell was a simple flick of the V’s before walking out of the backstage area, getting into a taxi and going home.

The next day (August 29th) Noel Gallagher then issued his full statement confirming he had left Oasis permanently.

Oasis have not commented on the reports.

I love Oasis and if this is the end of the amazing band I can say that I seen them at the millenium stadium on their last tour. It was awesome, not the first time I have seen them and on reflection, I hope not the last. On stage it is visibly clear to see the deep resentment between the brothers. But it works, very well. Nothing like a bit of sibling rivalry! Add this to a rock band in the mix and you have a band with attitude, fire, tremendous amount of talent, electric atmosphere that fills you with a sense of deep fulfilment. I hope the guitars have recovered...they have had some good times!
