Nearly a year has passed since last November’s long awaited release of ‘Chinese Democracy’. Now Guns N’ Roses intend to follow up the ten-years-in-the-making album with a string of tour dates in Canada in January 2010. The band, whose only original member is lead singer Axl Rose, last toured in 2007.
The announcement of the shows, which have been billed as part of the “Guns N’ Roses Chinese Democracy World Tour”, will be a big surprise to fans mainly because since the release of the album last year Axl has mostly remained silent, speaking to fans via a message board and just two interviews. He himself has made no comment about the tour, and what is even more surprising is that there is no form of announcement, or any information available on the official Guns N’ Roses website, despite the tour’s confirmed status.
According to Rolling Stone magazine the Canadian dates will be preceded by four performances in South-east Asia. With gigs in Taiwan (Dec 11th), Seoul (Dec 13th), Osaka (Dec 16th) and Tokyo (Dec 19th), reportedly on the cards. Rehearsals for the tour have already began in Los Angeles, according to a statement made by Live Nation.
Regarding the possibility of a large-scale tour, Axl told Billboard.com “No plans, but there’s talk. Management and our promoters are really excited with the offers coming in both here and worldwide.” Fans will be aware that the prospects of GNR’s tour plans have been the focus of a lot of public speculation in recent years. Multiple times, talks of concert dates have arisen and disappeared just as quickly.
However, already confirmed for January 2010, the route will take Axl and Co. across the Canadian provinces. 13 dates are on the books from a January 13th opening show at MTS Centre in Winnipeg MB, through to a final gig on February 4th at Metro Centre in Halifax, NS. Whether or not the tour continues Worldwide is still unknown.
So could Guns N’ Roses be outlining a plan for a World Tour? What is promising for Guns fans though is that Manager Irving Azoff, tells Rolling Stone that the band has big plans for this coming year. “Axl has been basically quiet, keeping out of the limelight for almost 15 years. People think they know him but they only really know what has been said about him by questionable people”, Azoff says.
I wonder if a certain UK farm owner, a Mr Eavis, knows anything about this?
