Everyone’s favourite furniture-chewing pop harlot is back. She may appear to be trying to live up to her name and wields fashion like an offensive weapon but she gives good pop in many folk’s opinion; that’s what matters, and not that she appears to be an alumni of the Jordan school of publicity humping. Ex Catholic schoolgirl Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (that’s her), started on her path to fame playing in the New York Lower East Side club scene. She wrote songs for established acts including The Pussycat Dolls and Akon who, once he’d heard her actually sing, got her signed to his label double quick and set her on her path to critical as well as commercial success. Go Gaga.
The theatrics and the fashion are a fundamental part of her persona, with her name being taken a song by from one of her hero bands Queen. Lady Gaga writes her own lyrics and melodies and even does most of the synth work. “It’s not just about the music,” she explains on her website, “It’s about the performance, the attitude, the look; it’s everything.” Which explains a lot.
