If a mad scientist took a bad hair day, stuck the 80s up its arse and grafted the results onto a shop mannequin, that scientist would probably not get a lot of funding and then get sectioned. In unrelated news, La Roux, the fantastic electropop duo of Eleanor Jackson and Ben Langmaid are on tour. Click here for La Roux tickets.

La Roux who were nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize, came 5th in the BBC’s Sound of 2009 competition and were featured in the Guardian’s best new acts of 2009. They've been touring the US, sold out their Australia dates in under two minutes and will be touring around the UK this November. Elly Jackson has apparently also single-handedly inspired a rash of ridiculous ladies’ haircuts in London.

The band are enjoying a surge of popularity. In 2008, their single ‘Quicksand’ made it to 153 in the UK charts. By 2009, after a stint supporting Lily Allen, they had a number 2 and a number 1 with ‘In for the Kill’ and ‘Bulletproof’ and saw their self-titled Album make it to number 2 in the UK. ‘Quicksand’, which Elly said would never be re-released is being re-released in November for those who missed it the first time round.
