Punk pioneers, Goth pioneers, the first punk band to have a single or an album or a tour, possibly the first punk band ever to throw a base drum at a room full of suspected Elton John Fans; The Damned are returning with a healthy chunk of their original line-up including the ever-present David Vanian. Sid Vicious wanted to audition to be the frontman for the damned, but never turned up and so Vanian got it, which worked well, all things considered. Through the years, a crazy amount of musicians have played with or even been in The Damned, including Chrissie Hyne and Lemmy from Motorhead.
Another notable Damned feature is brilliant band member names. Highlights include: Captain sensible, Rat Scabies and Monty Oxy Moron. The Damned recently supported their mate Lemmy’s band and Captain sensible commented "Ha ha..... we're working with Lemmy again are we? Excellent! He's the real deal, the absolute antithesis to all that the likes of Simon Cowell stand for. And for that we should all be grateful. This tour will be a celebration of all things rock 'n' roll."
The damned are playing:
21 May - O2 Academy Bristol
27 May - O2 Academy Leeds
29 May - HMV Picture House, Edinburgh
30 May - The Warehouse, Aberdeen
03 Jun - O2 Academy, Oxford
04 Jun - O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, London
06 Jun - O2 Academy Newcastle
