It has been announced that ‘Chasing Cars’ by Northern Irish indie stars Snow Patrol is the most played song of the past decade.
The beginning of the noughties saw a radical change in the music industry, increased use of internet has panicked the music world with more and more people now downloading via website and illegal file sharing. It was not long ago where a high profile case involving file sharing website, The Pirate Bay, rocked the music world and sparked huge debate over the role of downloading in the modern age.
It would seem that good old radio has lost its importance in bringing us the latest musical offerings. But since the introduction of downloading, music radio has shifted and changed to adapt to the new generations, with even the charts including downloaded music sales. So, with radio still an important part of the music industry, licensing group PPL have unveiled figures showing the most played tracks of the noughties.
Beating off tough competition from Take That, Indie lads Snow Patrol took the gold with their track ‘Chasing Cars’ being the most played. Initially released back in 2006 and taken from the band’s album ‘Eyes Open’, the song was a massive success and still remains a firm fan favourite.
It wasn’t total disappointment for the reformed 90s boy band however. Boasting one of the most successful comebacks of the decade, scoring a series of smash hits, their track ‘Shine’ followed Snow Patrol in at number two. They also scored another entry with ‘Rule The World’ placed at number six.
America’s representation minced in at number three with Scissor Sister’s disco stomping single ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancing’. The track was a massive hit and seems to have retained its popularity over the years.
