La Roux Plan "Less Mainstream" Second Album

Electro pop duo La Roux are planning a less commercial turn on their upcoming second album.

Having emerged as unlikely pop stars in 2009, their single ‘In For The Kill’ became one of the year’s defining tracks. Initially snubbed by mainstream radio stations and helped by the success of Skream’s dubstep remix, the single sneaked its way into the Top Ten over a series of months.

‘In For The Kill’ was only the beginning for La Roux however. The pair stormed the festival circuit and when it was time for their album release, it was near enough an instant chart success.

La Roux are now taking time off to work on the new material for the follow up album and promising an adventurous return. Catching up with singer Elly Jackson, she claims that new tracks wont be mainstream. She told BBC 6Music, “I think it’s probably going to go a lot less mainstream, but it’s a bit of a gamble. I’m certainly not going to try and make a mainstream record and I’m not going to try and make a non-mainstream record. We’re going to make the record that me and Ben want to make, but I have a feeling its going to be less mainstream.”

The second album also looks to feature work from Heaven 17 keyboard player Martyn Ware. Elly went on to reveal her excitement of the collaboration saying, “Martyn and Ben have gone out for tea, and talked about music and synthesisers and have had a real geek-off, it’s been quite funny. I think it will be interesting, and I think whatever we do will be fun as well – it wont be serious.”

The duo are currently putting the finishing touches to the new material.
