Gabriel Rios is a Puerto Rican singer who resides in Belgium and New York.
Rios moved to Belgium when he was 17. He released his first album, ‘Ghostboy’, in 2005, and featured a mix of Latin, hip hop, rock and electronica, and was well received in Belgium, Netherlands and France. The follow up, ‘Angelhead’ was released in 2007 delved further into pop electronica. His third album, ‘The Dangerous Return’ saw him abandon electronic sounds and beats, and recorded with jazz pianist Jef Neve. In 2011, he moved to New York, to write his new record. He ended up with a three-year informal residency at Rockwood Music Hall. It was there where he met Ruben Samama, who would go on to produce Rios’s 2014 album ‘This Marauder’s Midnight’, and play contrabass, along with his wife, Amber Docters van Leeuwen, who played cello.
