Hipsway are a Scottish new-wave band from Glasgow, featuring Johnny McElhone, Grahame Skinner, Pim Jones, Harry Travers, Stephen Ferrera and Gary Houston.
Formed in 1984, the band signed to Mercury Records, and released their self-titled debut album in 1986, which included the hit single, The Honeythief. The band’s second LP, ‘Scratch the Surface’, followed in 1989, and shortly after its release, the band split. They reformed in 2016 for two headline shows at Glasgow’s O2 ABC and in 2018, they put out 'Smoke and Dreams', their first album in 30 years. Hipsway were due to tour the UK throughout summer 2020 as part of Utilita’s Live From The Drive-In concert series, but the whole series has been cancelled by promoters due to fears over potential localised lockdowns in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
