FatBoy Slim’s Big Beach Boutique is returning with a new home at Brighton Football Club’s new state of the art stadium – the Amex Stadium.
Being held over two nights on the 1st and 2nd of June, Brighton’s favourite born and bred celebrity disc jockey will headline two nights as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee comes into full effect.
In the past, the Big Beach Boutique has always caused are stir for its natives, with the DJ receiving more than a warm welcome in his home town, creating nights people talk about for eternity.
This will be the fifth instalment of the Big Beach Boutique (BBB), with all previous one day festivals taking place on Brighton’s seafront.
In 2002, FatBoy Slim delivered the BBB II with an alarming quarter-of-million revellers turning up on the bohemian city’s seafront – four times more than expected. As yachts anchored in the sea, the city was overturned with drunken yobs and ecstasy induced ravers.
The city’s hospital stated they were one step away from a full scale shutdown, struggling to cope with such numbers.
Since then, the BBB has been a ticket only event, aimed at controlling the seafront and preserving the city’s beauty and character as the gig goes from strength to strength and is notoriously known for its legendary evenings.
As health and safety measures have intensified over the years, it has led Norman Cook, aka FatBoy Slim, to move the BBB to a new venue, out of town to the Amex stadium.
On the first night, the graduate headliner from Brighton University will indulge in a night of house, as he is joined by the 2 Bears, Luciano, Maya Jane Coles and legendary Radio 1 house disc jockey Carl Cox.
The following night will see Brighton’s most loved DJ turn to his skills to the recent adolescent trend in electronic music – Dub Step.
Union, DJ Fresh, Radio 1’s mash up DJ Annie mac, Doorly, Jaguar Skills and Nero will all be spinning their classic chart hits before Norman finishes another night at the Amex Stadium. Both days are set up for seven consecutive hours of music, starting at 3pm.
Talking about his homecoming gigs, FatBoy Slim said: “Its music to herald the first big weekend of the summer. I always play hard but fair, accessible but dirty sounds. This is going to be a full-on, no-nonsense DJ party.”
Since Norman shot to fame in the nineties and started to receive bookings for rock festivals, he researched ways of upping the ante, using lighting and visuals to rock crowds around the world, travelling via his private jet.
He said: “My aim is to create parties that are remembered with as much fondness as the original Brighton Beach Boutique. I want to get people to say I was there.”’
Tickets are on sale now for £35.00 for each night, with an after party back at Brighton’s seafront club Digital where some of the DJ’s will reconvene to carry on the night's antics.
And one thing is for certain, is that the new venue looks incredible and the gig is set to be full of superlatives.
