Enter Shikari Frontman Releases New 'Nourishment' EP In Aid Of Anti-Poverty Charity Actionaid

Wednesday, 22 August 2012 Written by Jon Stickler

Enter Shikari singer Rou Reynolds, in the guise of his solo project ROUT, is releasing a brand new EP to raise funds for and awareness of his favourite charity ActionAid later this month. The four-track EP features samples of music and singing taken from ActionAid’s project work in Ghana, and will be available from Tuesday 28th August.

ImageWhile filming a video for ActionAid’s fundraising project ActionAid Live last year, Rou was inspired by a story of their emergency work to create an EP to raise awareness of the charity.

The EP contains samples of songs recorded in witch camps in Ghana: makeshift camps in which women accused of witchcraft are forced to spend years away from their families and without access to adequate food, water, shelter and sanitation.

The full EP tracklisting is as follows:

1. Rout - How Are You?
2. Rout - Reaching Across The Globe
3. Rout & Rory C - Mary's Song
4. Rout - Nourishment

The EP will be available as a download from www.entershikari.com from 00:01 on Tuesday 28th August, in exchange for a minimum donation of just £1.00 to ActionAid.

A video promoting the EP, featuring footage from ActionAid’s programme work, and of Enter Shikari’s explosive DJ set for the charity at last year’s Reading Festival, will be released today via the Enter Shikari and ActionAid websites.

The EP will officially launch at Enter Shikari’s DJ set in the ActionAid tent at Reading Festival at midnight on Saturday 25th August, though it will only be available to download from Tuesday 28th August. Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens plays a secret ActionAid DJ set at 11pm on Thursday 23rd August, rising stars Alt-J will DJ at midnight on Friday 24th August, with The View DJing at midnight on Sunday 26th August.

Talking about the EP launch, Rou said: “Hearing about ActionAid’s work from someone who’d seen it first-hand captured my imagination, and I wanted to produce this record to make sure all our fans go and check out the amazing stuff ActionAid do.”

Stuart Fowkes from ActionAid said: “What’s really amazing about this EP is that it takes songs of hope from people we work with around the world and weaves them into something even greater. We really hope that when fans download the EP,they’ll take a couple of minutes to find out a bit more about what we do, as well as enjoying Rou’s amazing tunes.”

Enter Shikari have been supporting ActionAid for the past two years. Along with Huw Stephens, the band launched ActionAid’s emergency fundraising network ActionAid Live (www.actionaid.org.uk), and played a secret DJ set for the charity at 2011’s Reading Festival.
