British singer-songwriter Rita Ora has rubbished claims that her hit #1 single ‘RIP’ was written for Rihanna - and said that she knew as soon as she'd heard the track that it was built for her.
‘RIP’ was originally written by Canadian pop star Drake, who’s said that he had Rihanna in mind when penning the song. But, while Ora has that Rihanna may have heard the track before her, the song is all hers - and she doesn’t care what other people have to say about it.
“'RIP' wasn't written for Rihanna,” Ora told The Sunday Times. “But even if it was played to her, I don't care. As soon as I heard it, I said it was mine. I was going to fight for that song. And I was right – it went to #1.”
Ora went on to talk about her admiration of Coldplay - and in particular, their frontman Chris Martin, saying: “Coldplay don’t need all that fancy dancy stuff because they play with so much energy. It's just the four of them rocking out, with Chris running around and throwing himself on the floor. [Martin] told me to stand by my music and have fun with it.”
The star is proving to be one of biggest acts of the year so far, and her debut album ‘Ora’ hit #1 in the UK Albums charts yesterday. Keep an eye out on Stereoboard for more news on her - we’ll let you know first if she announces a UK tour.
