Adele's '21' To Overtake ABBA's 'Gold: Greatest Hits' As Biggest-Selling CD Of Past 30 Years?

Superstar soul singer Adele is set to overtake Swedish pop group ABBA as the owner of the biggest-selling CD in the UK, as the Official Charts Company compiles a special CD albums report in celebration of 30 years of the CD era.
Adele’s ‘21’ is close to overtaking ABBA’s huge-selling ‘Gold: Greatest Hits’ compilation album, which has sold four million copies in the UK, and currently sits in the #2 spot just 400,000 sales behind them.
Despite ABBA and Adele both competing for the #1 spot, Coldplay are in fact the highest-selling band of the thirty year era, with three albums - ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’, ‘X&Y’, and ‘Parachutes’ - in the Top 30.
Dido and Robbie Williams are the only other artists to see three of their albums reaching the Top 30, with Williams’ ‘I've Been Expecting You’, ‘Swing When You're Winning’, and his ‘Greatest Hits’ all in the chart.
