X Factor star Olly Murs has told of his shock - and relief - after being pranked by boyband JLS into thinking he had killed Aston Merrygold!
Filming for Channel 4’s Stand up to Cancer charity programme in Dagenham, Murs was chosen by Merrygold to be the person who’d fire him from a cannon in front of a crowd of cheering fans.
So, stepping up to the circus-style human cannon, Murs readied himself to press the ‘fire’ button, anxiously but excitedly waiting to launch the JLS star into a crash mat - only for the button to fail upon first attempt.
So, hoping to rectify things, Murs pushed the button for a second time - and sent Merrygold flying out of the cannon, over the safety mats, and straight into a wooden stage, with Murs looking on in horror as Aston lay still as paramedics rushed to his side.
But, to save Murs some serious guilty feelings, the rest of the group - including the real Aston Merrygold - then revealed that it was, in fact, a stuntman who was launched from the cannon - and that the whole thing was a prank.
Writing about the prank via Twitter, Murs wrote:
