Oil Painting Of The Beatles' Penises Defaced Ahead Of Charity Auction

For anyone who’s ever been to school (we’d hope that’s all of you!), you’ll know that drawing dicks and cocks all over your mates work/bag/face is definitely the funniest and most-rewarding act of vandalism you can pull off as youngster. But the Museum of Liverpool is having to deal with a different kind of penis-perversion this month - after a mystery group of visitors defaced an oil painting depicting each ‘member’ of legendary rockers The Beatles.

ImageLovingly (or creepily) painted by artist Jonathan Gent, the piece - which you can see on the right - was set to be auctioned off for children’s charity Claire House as part of Liverpool Love, which will see a number of artworks sold on to raise cash for unfortunate children. But now, the painting has been smudged by some mystery attackers - and it may not make it to auction at all.

A museum spokesperson has since said: “The damage is all the more regrettable because along with other works in the exhibition the painting is due to be auctioned to raise funds for children's charity Claire House. The decision as to whether the work will be displayed again, and included in the auction, is now dependent on what can be done to return the work to its original condition.”

The painting was set to be auctioned off on October 17th but unless a team of specialists - who are currently assessing it’s damage - can restore it, it looks like it won’t be raising any money (or eyebrows) anytime soon.

Previously speaking about the odd painting, Gent said: “It's as intimate a piece as you can get about The Beatles. What was really what I was after because they are such a global thing - this untouchable thing and that is what interests me most about them. So this idea of suddenly having their penises on a canvas it was, I guess, about closeness, getting close to this idol in some way.”
