Fresh-faced singer-songwriter Tom Odell has revealed that he hopes the public won’t instantly pigeon-hole him as a ‘male Lily Allen’ - as he’s signed to her label In the Name Of.
The acoustic and folk star, who recently picked up the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award as well as receiving a nomination for the BBC Sound of 2013, is hard at work putting together what will be his debut studio album, but is a little worried that people will cast him off as a male version of Lily before truly giving him and his music a chance.
Speaking to The Daily Star, Odell revealed: “Lily has done it all from scratch herself, so I couldn't wish for a better mentor. She doesn't try to mould me at all - I hope people listen to my music before thinking I'm a male Lily because, as great as she is, the creative decisions are mine.”
He continued: “My rule is to write songs people can relate to. Artistry is being lost with so much processed dance music. It's not all that human, and that's what I want to bring back.”
