American superstar Barbra Streisand is set to perform at this year’s Oscar awards ceremony, amidst rumours of the singer embarking on a world tour.
The award-winning 70-year-old last performed at the Oscars back in the 70s, when she won Best Original Song for ‘Evergreen’ from A Star is Born. Now, more than 35 years later, Streisand is to appear for a second time, with organisers ‘honoured’ to have secured her services for what will be a ‘very special performance’.
Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said of the announcement: “In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music, how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand? We are honored that she has agreed to do a very special performance on this year's Oscars, her first time singing on the show in 36 years.”
Taking place on February 24th, the ceremony will also see Adele performing in honour of her award-winning James Bond theme ‘Skyfall’, while Norah Jones sings ‘Everybody Needs a Best Friend’ from hilarious feature length Ted.
