BIMM Group, UK and Ireland’s market leader in contemporary music education, has announced the appointment of Roger Daltrey CBE as the first ever Patron of BIMM Brighton.
With a juggernaut career that spans five decades, Daltrey’s work with The Who marked some of the most defining moments in rock and roll history. Daltrey’s powerful stage presence earned him a reputation as one of the most charismatic frontmen of all time and he became the face and voice of a generation. The band's iconic single 'My Generation' captured the revolutionary spirit of the 1960s and today Daltrey continues to inspire and ignite passion in musicians across the Globe.
Daltrey says of his new role: "I am delighted to be a patron for BIMM Brighton. BIMM is a fantastic platform for talented young musicians who are given the opportunity to thrive and grow within the music industry. I am very happy to support new music in the UK and BIMM is helping to develop and nurture future talent organically and successfully."
Tony Wadsworth CBE who sits on The BIMM Group Board of Directors comments: “Roger Daltrey and the Who were inspirational to me as a kid and were one of the key reasons why music was the only career for me. Almost 40 years later, after spending my life in the music industry , it is an honour for me that we are both linked with an organisation for which Roger Daltrey has agreed to be Patron ,and where his inspiration and influence shines as brightly as it ever did.”
BIMM Brighton opened in 2001, to offer a first class contemporary music education to talented young musicians across performance and business, and this year introduces three new courses in Music Production, Music Business Management and Music Events Management.
Vaseema Hamilton, BIMM Brighton Principal adds “For over 40 years Roger Daltrey’s artistic influence has loomed large in the creative and cultural life of Brighton and in return, Brighton has played a significant role as a backdrop to his formidable career. For Roger Daltrey CBE to have agreed to become a Patron for BIMM Brighton is a huge honour for us. He is regarded as one of the greatest artists the UK has ever produced and therefore will prove to be a truly inspiring Patron for our aspiring young musicians here at BIMM Brighton."
As The Who complete a sell out tour of the US and before they embark on a tour of the UK and Ireland in June this year, BIMM Brighton will be celebrating Roger Daltrey’s patronage with a party and screening of The Who’s ground breaking and critically acclaimed 1973 rock opera ‘Quadrophenia’.
As Phil Daniels says in ‘Quadrophenia’ "I mean, nothing seems right, apart from Brighton.”
The BIMM Group also includes campuses in London, Dublin, Bristol and now Manchester (opening September 2013) with over £7m due to be invested in facilities across the UK and Ireland throughout the next year. For further details head to www.bimm.co.uk/brighton.
