British titans of rock The Who have given a stunning Superbowl half-time show, playing a medley of classic hits.
The Who are without doubt one of the most iconic groups in rock history. Famous for smashing guitars, crazy drummers and massive stadium anthems, the band have a huge back catalogue that bursts with classics. Boasting such a repertoire The Who were chosen to perform at last night’s Superbowl half-time concert, previously frontman Roger Daltrey revealed that he was dubious as to the importnace of the performance.
"It's a strange one," Daltrey told the NME. "It's an honour to do it, but it's only 12 minutes! It's kind of weird! I suppose it gives people time to take a slash and that's about it. That's what you do at half-time isn't it?! You plan your toilet break!"
Daltrey continued. "It'll be an experience, and it is an amazing game" he said. "You know, I'm a soccer fan, and we have rugby of course, but American football is an incredibly skilled game too. It's going to be an experience."
With the Superbowl being played last night, the half-time show was in a huge triumph for the band. Opening with their classic track ‘Pinball Wizard’ The Who rocked through a series of hits. Rattling through their set in typical fashion, both Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend were on fine form.
Having a tiny slot of just 12 minutes of performance time, the band played shortened versions of many tracks alongside a medley of hits. A huge firework display and spectacular stage set-up, The Who seemed as brilliant as ever with Townshend stoking up the crowd further with his windmill guitar technique.
With the event being broadcast to millions across the world, the performance is now available to play as a ‘Rock Band’ add on. The Who released the recording of the performance immediately after the show ended, allowing fans to rock the ‘Superbowl’ in the comfort of their own homes.
