Joe Driscoll & Sekou Kouyate are a transcontinental world music duo. Driscoll, a New York singer-songwriter performed his style of hip hop and folk throughout Europe for over a decade before meeting Kouyate at a Nuit Metis Festival in Marseilles in 2010. Kouyate, a Guinea kora (21 stringed West African harp) player immediately hit it off with Driscoll and the two decided to create a mix of afrobeat, various African styles, hip hop, rock and reggae music.
They’ve made over 30 festival appearances in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland and Austria including Mundial Festival, Fusion Festival, Festival Nuits D’Afique, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Music Meeting and Greenman Festival. The pair released their first album, ‘Faya’, in 2014. They are currently working on their second album, ‘Monistic Theory’, set for release in early 2016, and have added bass player John Railton and drummer James Breen, to the line up.
