Mark Lanegan was an alternative rock singer-songwriter from Ellensburg, Washington.

Widely recognised as a member of Screaming Trees, he started his musical career in 1984 and released seven albums with the band before they disbanded in 2000. He then joined Queens of the Stone Age for several years, before launching various collaborative projects with the likes of Isobel Campbell and Greg Dulli.

He put out his debut solo album, ‘The Winding Sheet’, in 1990, and went on to put out countless more, most notably ‘Bubblegum’ in 2001. His most recent full-length release came in the form of 2020's ’Straight Songs of Sorrow’.

Mark Lanegan died at his home in Killarney, Ireland, on February 22, 2022 at the age of 57. Hundreds of fellow musicians paid tribute, noted by his obituary in The Guardian as being "one of his generation’s most soulful singers", with a legacy that will extend far beyond the duration of his career.
