Miranda Hart is a British actress and comedian hailing from Torquay, Devon. Born in 1972, she was interested in acting and the arts from an early age, receiving a post-grad in acting at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts.
It was then that she decided to take on stand-up comedy, performing a solo show in Edinburgh. However, though she was a hit, Miranda would find that she’d prefer to write and act rather than appear live on stage. It wasn’t long before she was pitching shows to BBC executives (including the one and only Jennifer Saunders). Successful in her wishes, she would go on to write shows for the BBC, including her own sitcom Miranda, and Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop. Now, she is one of the scene’s most respected figures, and has picked up numerous awards on the way - including Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actress for Miranda, and Non-Fiction Book of the Year for her book ‘Is It Just Me?’. Despite not being particularly fond of performing stand-up comedy routines, she blessed us with her first ever UK tour - her ‘My, What I Call Live Show’ - in 2014. This was Miranda at her best. She involved everyone in the audience and had them all crying with laughter. What talent to be able to give everyone such a good evening through everyday humour without smutt and bad language. Well just a couple of swear words, but the story needed it just this once!
