Public Enemy are a hip-hop group, based in Long Island, New York, consisting of MCs Chuck D, DJ Lord, producer Professor Griff, and S1W.
Formed in 1982, Public Enemy, released their debut album, 'Yo! Bum Rush the Show', in 1987, followed the next year by, ‘It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back’, in 1988. ‘Fear of a Black Planet’ was released in 1990, which reached #4 in the UK Albums Chart, and ‘Apocalypse 91... The Enemy Strikes Black’ in 1991, which hit #4 in the Billboard Hot 200. All four albums were commercially and critically acclaimed. The group’s latest album, ‘Man Plans God Laughs’, came out in 2015. They were back in the UK in June 2015 for an appearance at London's Roundhouse, as part of Mogwai's 20th anniversary celebrations, and played headline shows in Liverpool, Bournemouth and Cardiff, amidst their stint supporting The Prodigy on their UK tour in early 2016. Public Enemy toured the UK and Ireland in May 2019 on the Gods of Rap tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album 'It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back'.
