Shearwater, is an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas. Formed in 1999, the band currently consists of Jonathan Meiburg, Danny Reisch, Lucas Oswald, Abram Shook and Jesca Hoop.
Okkervil River's’ Jonathan Meiburg and Will Sheff founded Shearwater in 1999 as an outlet for the quieter songs which they were writing, though Will Sheff left the band in 2005. The band gained notoriety touring and playing in support of bands such as The Mountain Goats, Akron/Family, Blonde Redhead, Clinic, Coldplay and Sharon Van Etten. Their debut album, ‘The Dissolving Room’, was released in 2001 and since then the band have released including ‘Everybody Makes Mistakes’ in 2002, ‘Winged Life’ in 2004, ‘Palo Santo’ in 2006, ‘Rook’ in 2008, ‘The Golden Archipelago’ and an instrumental album ‘Shearwater is Enron’ in 2010, ‘Animal Joy’ in 2010, and ‘Fellow Travelers’ in 2013, which was an album consisting entirely of cover songs by bands that Shearwater had toured with. The band’s latest record, ‘Jet Plane and Oxbow’, is set for releases in 2016 on Sub Pop, and they’ll be touring in support of the album in February 2016.
