American folk/country outfit The Civil Wars was formed in 2008, after singer-songwriters Joy Williams and Jon Paul White met at a songwriting session at a studio in Nashville. Kicking off their career with the release of a live EP, the band went on to release one more digital EP - 2009’s ‘Poison & Wine’ - before putting out their debut record ‘Barton Hollow’ in 2011.
The pair probably couldn’t have managed to produce a better debut than ‘Barton Hollow’ if they tried a thousand times over - it topped the US Indie and Folk album charts, hit #10 and #13 in the US and UK respectively, and earned them a TWO Grammys, as well as a Vanguard award. American indie-folk outfit The Civil Wars have sensationally cancelled all of their up and coming shows - which includes their three remaining UK tour dates - after citing ‘irreconcilable differences of ambition'.
Double Grammy winners, The Civil Wars return to the UK for a nationwide tour that starts in Belfast on October 28th and includes a sold-out show at London’s historic Roundhouse on November 6th. The tour comes as the band’s acclaimed debut album ‘Barton Hollow’ passes 500,000 sales in the US and has been awarded Silver in the UK with sales fast approaching 100,000 copies.
