The Pogues are a Celtic punk band that formed in London back in 1982. Pioneering the Celtic punk genre throughout the 80s and early 90s, The Pogues are fronted by Shane MacGowan and also features multi-instrumentalists Spider Stacy, Jem Finer, James Fearnley, Andrew Ranken. Darryl Hunt, and Terry Woods.
Playing a brand of politically-driven punk using traditional Irish instruments, the band saw decent commercial success in their first decades together, with five of their seven albums peaking inside the UK Top 20. Despite building a cult following thanks to their energetic and highly-rated live shows, the commercial failure of their seventh album ‘Pogue Mahone’ led to the band’s split - only for all original members to return in 2001 for a Christmas tour. Over ten years later, and the band are still performing across the country - although they’ve released no new material, their back catalogue has helped them remain a prominent live figure and a common feature on the touring circuit.
