My 8 year old lad has started collecting charity wristbands,
Each 1 he has got, we have talked about the cause of charity and he has willingly paid for them with his pocket money  .
I think this is a wonderful way to get my son into giving to charity and he wears them with pride.
It was his 1st day back at school today and he wanted to wear his bands.
When he got to school, he was told to take them off, as they were "classed as jewellry".
Now do i go into school and explain his situation OR do i just respect the school rules  .
im unsure of what to do !!! |

i would say go by the rules .... not because i necessarily agree that theyre "jewellery" but because ( and i can only judge your sons school by what mine was like - so this may be un-accurate) i do think some other kids, buggers that they can be, may try and swipe your lads wrist bands, being oblivious that your little lad actually wants to do his bit for charity (which i think is absolutely smashing and really is admirable)
I've never been a fan of parents going into to school over, well, non urgent issues - i think it just cause way too much hassle for the kid (again, just from the experiences i have from my own school)
Maybe you could tell your lad that even though he is doing something remarkable and really really nice, school doesnt like the wrist bands being worn, so he needs to take them off, but can put them on as soon as he's out of the school gate and just encourage him to tell all his mates about his bands and explain his reasons for having them (ie not a fashion statement)
not sure if this is the right answer ..... but it is an answer! |

yeah i know you are right in what you have said manda,
but if every kid in the school latched on it, then maybe more money could be raised
Its a shame you get horrible kids though isnt it 
I actually know the teachers quite well, as im training to be a teachers assistant in the infants there, i suppose this may make me look a bit daft, but my lad just wants to wear them

I would go with Mand too hun, maybe let him wear them on the way to school if he likes and then put them in your bag and bring them when you pick him up, thats's what I do if my boys want to take things to school, If he's anything like my oldest, he'll understand the value of money too and he'll understand how upset he'd be if he lost one of them and had to replace it.
If he's as grown up as he sounds he'll have no probs understanding your's and the schools point of view. |

i think he'll probably be ok with taking them off to go into school, when he realises some little beggar might try an swipe them. Maybe you could make a 'big deal' out of him taking them off in the morning and then getting them back at 3pm or whenever .... you know so he has something to look forward too when he gets out the school gates.  |

man im glad ive left school!
i dont think its fair that kids are not allowed to wear jewellery at school - in a place where every1 is wearing the same thing u have to find some way to be individual! |

| we are allowed jewellery and wristbands in our school... the modern studies department were even selling the makepovertyhistory ones... i think its good... its all (well most of it) is for a good cause |

The headmaster is allowing the children to wear just 1 wristband,
His words were "How can i not let the children wear them when ive got 1 on myself".
he pulled his jacket up to reveal an anti bullying 1, respect to him i say.
He did mention that any more than 1 would be confiscated, which i think is quite fair .
Apparently he has had a few parents asking him about them, and hes really pleased that the children are taking notice
So i suppose that concludes me little dilemma .

). They've introduced a "zero tolerance" to jewelrey now in my school, so then as soon as they see it (or mobiles) they get taken off of you, which is fair do's but I think disallowing charity bands is a bit....far. Nevertheless I have my breast cancer one on now anyway lol
