William Bell is an American soul singer-songwriter from Memphis, Tennessee.
Starting his music career in 1957, as a member of the vocal group The Del-Rios, he signed to Stax Records in 1961 and released the single, You Don't Miss Your Water. He released his debut album, ‘The Soul of a Bell’, in 1967, and gained a Top Ten hit in the UK the following year with Private Number, a duet with Judy Clay. After signing with Mercury, he managed to score a Top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100, with Tryin' to Love Two, in 1976, which was followed by his most commercially successful album, ‘Coming Back for More’, in 1977. His latest album was 2006’s ‘New Lease on Life’, via Wilbe. He has headlined his own shows and tours across the USA, including the 70th birthday tribute concert to Curtis Mayfield at the Lincoln Center in 2012.
