Black Sabbath To 'Tour As Much As They're Able' This Year

The original line-up of Black Sabbath, who are currently working on their first new album since 1978’s ‘Never Say Die!’, will be touring ‘as much as they can’ this year, according to a post on Tony Iommi’s website.

The legendary rockers announced in 2011 that the original line-up - consisting of lead guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, frontman Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward - would be returning for a world tour and a brand new studio album.

But, after being rocked by the departure of Ward (due to contract disagreements) and Iommi’s cancer diagnosis, the band’s world tour plans were cancelled and they ended up performing only at Download Festival, Lollapalooza, and at a homecoming gig in Birmingham.

Regrouping at the end of 2012, Black Sabbath - sans Bill Ward - reentered the studio to continue work on their new record, and confirmed that they had 15 new tracks, including one titled ‘God is Dead’. Now, Iommi has written a statement rounding up 2012 for his website - and has told fans that 2013 will feature a lot of touring.

The post reads: “What a year! Certainly not the one I was expecting. Thanks to you all for your massive help and support, it was very encouraging. I'm still working on the album and managed to play three shows, not bad given the news a year ago. I'm looking forward to next year, seeing what you think of the record and touring as much as we're able. My Best Wishes to you all, I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year, most of all, stay positive - Tony.”

Australian dates for 2013 have already been revealed, and reports across the net suggest that the new record will possibly hit shelves in April. Stay with Stereoboard to stay up-to-date on the band - we’ll let you know if any UK dates hit the surface and if any official release date is unveiled.
