Armistead Maupin is a best-selling author and LGBT activist from Washington DC.
After having worked in both print and broadcast journalism, Maupin became best known for his series of novels Tales of the City. Set in San Francisco, the series started as a newspaper serial in 1974. He later worked the series into books published by HarperCollins, and eventually turned out nine books between 1978 and 2014. Aside from Tales of the City, Maupin also wrote Maybe The Moon in 1992 and the Night Listener in 2000.
