Avantasia is a German metal supergroup that was originally formed back in 1999. Started by Edguy frontman Tobias Sammet, it also features an ever-changing array of musicians and singers.
Best described as a kind of metal opera, Avantasia's history is split into three eras - their first, at the break of the millennium, saw them release their first records, the two-part 'Metal Opera'. The second half of the '00s saw their second era unfold, and three more albums hitting shelves. Now well into their third period, following 2013's 'The Mystery of Time', Avantasia returned with their next LP, 'Ghostlights', early in 2016, and saw them taking on their biggest world tour so far, playing 40 shows across Europe, North America, South America, Japan, and Russia. In October 2018, Avantasia announced that they had now set February 2019 as the date for what will be their next effort, 'Moonglow'. Once again, they will be supporting it with a world tour, with dates in the UK, Europe and Australia already confirmed.
