On This Day In Music: Farewell Prince

On April 21, 2016 funk icon Prince, full name Prince Rogers Nelson, died at his Paisley Park compound in Chanhassen, Minnesota, aged 57.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Prince released his debut, ‘For You’, in 1978 and went on to enjoy one of the most inventive, prolific careers in pop. A virtuoso guitarist, his works included the landmark ‘Purple Rain’, ‘Sign ‘o the Times’, ‘1999’ and ‘Parade’. His final releases emerged in 2015 in the form of ‘Hit n Run’ phases one and two, which were ushered in by a series of rapturously-received surprise live shows.
