On This Day In Music: Ronnie James Dio Dies Aged 67

On May 16, 2010 American rock music legend Ronnie James Dio passed away aged 67 following a battle with stomach cancer. Coming into the spotlight in the mid-1970s, the singer started out as the frontman of hard-rocking band Rainbow, formed by British guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. He also fronted Black Sabbath after the band were forced to sack fellow metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, formed Dio in the early ’80s and played with Elf and Heaven & Hell, among others.
