This weekend, Cardiff’s venues will once again hum to the sound of Sŵn Festival, with this year’s festivities taking the form of the one-day DimSŵn event. The Amazing Snakeheads, Woman’s Hour, the Wytches, Trwbador, Cian Ciaran, Prides, Glass Animals, Happyness and more will all tread the boards at venues including Clwb Ifor Bach, Gwdihw, Moon Club, Buffalo, Four Bars and the Cardiff Fashion Quarter. Last year, Sŵn was a roaring success, eventually scooping the NME Award for Best Small Festival. In this week’s Throwback Thursday we have a shot of Womanby Street, including Clwb Ifor Bach and the Moon Club, during the four day event by the excellent Craig Thomas of Tallboy Images.

With news arriving this week that Cardiff’s much-loved Sŵn Festival will be taking a break this year – with a one-day event, DimSŵn, temporarily stepping in – it seems apt to rewind the clock to a little under a year ago, when Bo Ningen redecorated Clwb Ifor Bach with their sonic shenanigans during the 2013 edition of the fest. My ears still haven’t quite recovered. See you at DimSŵn.

This week, Sam Duckworth began his final tour under the name Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Almost a decade on from the release of ‘The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager’, the Southend songsmith will soon hang up this particular set of spurs, continuing to create music under his own name and following up two recent solo records – ‘The Mannequin’ and ‘Saving Grace’. Here, as he builds up to a farewell show at London’s Forum on September 12, we roll back the clock to October 23, 2011 and Duckworth’s set at Clwb Ifor Bach as part of that year’s Sŵn Festival.

Throwback Thursday: Crossfaith

Reading and Leeds. A weekend of noise, beers and music to rival just about any other. In 2014, Queens of the Stone Age, Paramore, Arctic Monkeys and Blink 182 will headline, with a plethora of treats dotted throughout the bill, Crossfaith among them. The Japanese metallers have become festival bankers in recent years and this weekend they’ll turn out early doors at Reading to get things going. They rarely fail to deliver.

Here, in the latest edition of Throwback Thursday, we wind the clock back to May 5, 2013, when they threw down the gauntlet to headliners Bring Me The Horizon at Cardiff University. Meanwhile, if you’re going to Reading and Leeds, you can check out our preview here.
