Cherry Ghost’s new single ‘We Sleep On Stones’ introduces the critically heralded ‘Beneath This Burning Shoreline’, and perfectly paves the way for an album which is both rich and expansive.
A track written by Simon Aldred whilst he traveled by train from Berlin to Prague, Krautrock rhythms and eerie strings underpin the sinister song, which rolls along with a stirring and relentless energy, like a midnight train into the night. Once again Aldred marries a deceptively romantic melody with the darkest of lyrical subject matter; ‘We Sleep On Stones’ is a murder ballad about those who have lost loved ones at war.
In complete contrast, the B-Side to ‘We Sleep On Stones’ emerges in the form of CeCe Peniston’s 90’s house classic ‘Finally’ – a live favourite of the bands, this reinterpretation has already gained much attention within musical circles and as would be expected, Cherry Ghost make it completely their own.
The new album unveils a band who have further crafted a warm and distinctive sound, still founded on lyrical poeticism yet more refined and assured. In support of ‘Beneath This Burning Shoreline’, Cherry Ghost recently completed a headline tour with took in dates across the UK throughout September and October, and following a successful support slot earlier this year are once again touring with The Coral in November.
‘We Sleep On Stones’ is released on 12” vinyl on November 11 2010
