Nelly Furtado Feat. Wiley - Night Is Young (Single Review)

The songbird and the godfather of grime have teamed up with Sketch Iz Dead to create a real floorfiller of a track, 'Night Is Young'. This won’t sound out of place on the club scene or the radio with the four to the floor beats on the chorus that have become big in today’s charts make this track potential chart material.

Everyone has followed Nelly Furtado blossom from the innocent singer/songwriter we all became familiar with when ‘I’m Like A Bird’ came out but she has since evolved into a hip-hop force to be reckoned with due to massive hits such as ‘Maneater’ and ‘Promiscuous Girl’ which meant that the collaboration with Wiley does not come as a shock to many people.

Wiley or ‘Eskii Boy’ is considered to be the godfather of grime and the one who invented the genre which has produced chart toppers Tinchy Stryder and Chipmunk to name a few. He had massive hits with ‘Wearing My Rolex’ and the collaboration with Daniel Merriweather on ‘Cash In My Pocket’ which also saw him work with Mark Ronson and half of Sketch Iz Dead, Jake Gosling.

ImageThe track has recently been featured on 1xtra with hype building on the song which could be a big club hit. It has a very similar vibe as the Kelly Rowland and David Guetta hit ‘Commander’ which again was big on the club scene and I don’t see why this track can’t be the same.

A flawless vocal performance from Mrs. Furtado is just what you come to expect from her and she doesn’t fail to impress on this track with the electro/dance beat complimenting the vocals perfectly. The verses from Wiley are just as good with typical flow that everyone has come to expect from with it being lyrically very good.

This track has every ingredient for it to be a big hit with the beats there, the vocals there and the rap verses being there all combining to make a big pop/electro track that will have your hands in the air singing along to every word. Almost certainly to be a hit amongst the clubs summer 2011.
